Our story

In the 80s & early 90s, San Bernardino had an adult-focused LGBTQ+ center; however, there was no such space for youth-specific resources. Partners and local teachers, Mark Sension & Wil Trevizo, decided to bridge the gap by starting a Friday Night youth program where queer & trans teens could cultivate community with their peers.

Slowly, the group grew into a social services & advocacy program for LGBTQ+ youth in the Inland Empire region, and Rainbow Pride Youth Alliance (RPYA) was born. Today, RPYA is led by Benita Ramsey, who continues the legacy established by Sension & Trevizo by advancing LGBTQ+ health, communities, and livelihoods.
